The newest member of the Countryside Equine veterinarian team, Dr. Tori Martin is excited to return south to serve the horses in her home state of Georgia. Her love for horses began at the ripe age of 6-years-old when she began riding as a hobby. While she has yet to own a horse of own, the passion she had for the species and sport landed her a spot in her first job working for the horse farm where she rode.
Her academic adventures took her first to Clemson University for undergrad where she was on the rowing team and animal sciences and set on a path to veterinary medicine. From there, she made her way to the midwestern US where she completed her DVM through the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Here she expanded her knowledge of and passion for equine medicine, and, more specifically, equine surgery.
In pursuit of a potential surgical residency, she completed an equine surgery and sports medicine focused internship at Equine Sports Medicine and Surgery (ESMS) in Weatherford, TX. At ESMS, Dr. Tori gained a significant amount of experience in lameness on a wide range of disciplines, with western performance horses being predominant. She also was able to be involved in many surgical procedures where she found joy in various orthopedic and airway procedures.
From there, she began a large animal rotating internship at Purdue University in Indiana, where she also conducted extensive research, specifically focused on the pathophysiology and treatment of laminitis. Due to the overwhelming competition for large animal surgical residency programs, Dr. Martin decided to begin practicing medicine outside of academia and found Countryside to be the perfect place to truly begin building her career.
Dr. Martin remains deeply passionate about lameness, sports medicine, and equine surgery. Her greatest motivation is involving customers as active members of their horse’s care team, working to help every patient recover or return to a level of performance, health, and comfort that supports a happy and fulfilling life.
